Our tips for choosing your future sofa

As the heart of any living room, the sofa is a key element of your home. To make sure it’s comfortable and perfectly suited to your space, it’s worth choosing it carefully. To guide you through this essential purchase, here’s a practical overview. Shape, colour, materials… discover everything you should keep in mind when selecting your next sofa!

What types of sofas are there?

The market offers a wide variety of models. Here’s an overview of the main types to help narrow down your search:

Recliner sofa

The perfect partner for long reading sessions or movie nights at home. A recliner adjusts to your body and can feature manual or electric functions. Its multiple relaxing positions and unbeatable comfort are guaranteed to win you over.

Corner sofa

Available as left-hand, right-hand or reversible versions (fixed or sofa bed options). Ideal for separating the dining area from the living room or for filling an awkward corner.

Straight sofa

Just like corner models, straight sofas can be fixed or convertible. They usually come in 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-seater versions and are easy to integrate into any layout.

Modular sofa

A dream option for anyone who likes to switch things up. Modular sofas can be rearranged endlessly. Seats on the right at the start of the week, on the left by the weekend.

Chesterfield sofa

A timeless classic. Chesterfields are sturdy, stylish and full of character.

Club sofa

If you want to bring charm and personality into your space, a club sofa is always a winning choice.

Clic-clac or BZ sofa bed

This compact sofa bed—often sized 90 × 190 cm—is perfect for small spaces. For daily use, invest in a high-quality 15 cm-thick mattress. For occasional guests, go for a thinner mattress paired with a thick seat cushion.

Which materials should you choose?

Cotton is a timeless classic and comes in an extensive range of colours.
Microfibre is durable, water-repellent and resistant to stains and dust—perfect for families with young children.

Fans of natural, breathable fabrics will love linen: elegant, authentic, antibacterial and long-lasting.

Velvet offers great structure and a soft, luxurious feel. It’s a trendy alternative to cotton.
If you want to make an eco-friendly choice, consider recycled materials.

Full-grain leather stands out for its softness, authenticity and premium look, as its original surface is preserved. Corrected-grain leather, on the other hand, is coated with a pigmented colour film.

Comfort

Feeling good in your sofa is essential. Comfort depends mainly on two elements: padding and suspension.

Padding determines how soft and plush the sofa feels. High-resilience foam offers excellent seating comfort. With a density of 30 kg/m³, it’s the most common and comfortable option. Some models are made without harmful substances and come with OEKO-TEX or CertiPUR certification. Padding may also include feathers, polyester wadding or softer foams.

Suspension supports your weight without letting the seat sag over time. Two main systems exist:
Flat springs (positive support)
Interlaced elastic webbing (negative support)

Whether you’re refreshing your décor or furnishing a new space, choosing a sofa deserves thoughtful consideration. By keeping these criteria in mind, you’ll find a model that combines style, comfort and practicality—perfectly enhancing your home.
