Outdoor design table: which size should you choose according to your space and the number of guests?
The size of your outdoor table is one of the first criteria to consider when buying your new garden table. Beyond the importance of the number of people you can seat around your design outdoor table, the aesthetic aspect is just as important. What shape do you prefer, and how have you planned the layout of your outdoor space?
A garden table is not only limited to being a dining table. We will also discuss the perfect size of a side table and even a low outdoor table.
And because we all know, now more than ever, the importance of gathering together to share moments of conviviality, it is worth asking yourself which outdoor dining table is ideal for you, and how many chairs it is possible to place around it: large garden table or small outdoor table?
Round garden tables: small balcony round table or large outdoor round table?
Small outdoor round tables have the advantage of being practical and versatile. You can place 1 to 4 people around a round garden table of 80cm, 90cm or even 100cm in diameter. A 60cm diameter round table will allow you to seat 2 outdoor chairs. This format is ideal for balcony outdoor tables, small terraces or restaurants. A round outdoor table of 120cm can accommodate 6 to 7 people.
Square outdoor tables: compact and modular
Square outdoor tables are perfect for your terrace, balcony, or even a professional project. For square garden tables of 60, 65, 70 or 80 cm: we recommend placing only 2 outdoor chairs to ensure comfort while dining. You can seat 4 people around an 80cm square table if the goal is simply to have a drink or an aperitif. Square tables also have the advantage of being modular: you can combine several square tables together to create a large rectangular outdoor table and host more guests in your outdoor space.
Small or large rectangular outdoor tables for terraces
Rectangular garden tables are the most suitable if you want to host a large number of guests. The smallest rectangular outdoor table by Diiiz measures 120x60cm and can already seat up to 4 people. Two more people can be added with rectangular tables of 120x80cm or 160x80cm. With a rectangular outdoor table of 190x80cm, up to 8 people can comfortably gather. With rectangular outdoor dining tables, conviviality is guaranteed.
The space between guests around your outdoor table
For a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, it is not necessary to place your guests too close together. It is recommended to provide at least 60cm of space per guest around your outdoor table. You also need to consider the width of your outdoor chairs, as this determines how much space they will take.
If you want to seat more people at the table, it will be preferable to choose outdoor chairs without armrests, as they are more compact. Outdoor chairs with armrests are usually wider.
Beyond the space needed for your guests, also think about your own circulation space! You will probably go back and forth between your outdoor dining area and your kitchen. It is therefore important to allow enough room to move freely around your garden table. Also, think about the space your guests will need once seated: avoid placing your design outdoor table too close to a wall, glass door or pool edge.
Outdoor side tables: round, square or rectangular?
For outdoor side tables, dimensions are less important than shape. If you are still hesitating between round, square or rectangular, note that there is indeed a difference!
A round side table needs space. If you place it between two seats of your outdoor lounge, it will not create the convivial atmosphere you are looking for in your garden.
On the contrary, a rectangular side table is perfect for fitting into narrow and small outdoor spaces.
Outdoor low tables: choose the right shape and height
When selecting the right outdoor low table, the question of available space always comes into play.
If a round outdoor low table is perfect for larger spaces, a square low table or a rectangular outdoor low table will be more suitable for smaller and tighter areas.
Regarding the height of your outdoor coffee table, remember that it should never exceed the seat height of your outdoor armchairs. We recommend a maximum height of 45cm.
Dining table, side table, or outdoor coffee table—you now know everything you need to choose wisely and enjoy your summer with peace of mind!
