What’s New at Salone del Mobile Milan 2022?

The Salone del Mobile Milan, also known as the Milan Furniture Fair, will once again take place this April in the Italian design capital. This major international event has become the most anticipated showcase of the year to discover the latest furniture trends and interior design innovations. From April 17 to 22, 2022, the spotlight will be on Rho Fiera Milano.

Material Trends 2022: Natural and Noble Finishes

The organizers of the Milan Furniture Fair aim to reconnect visitors with emotions: “The art of interior design is to capture the desires of a generation and an era, transforming new lifestyles into everyday objects.”

In 2022, interior designers will navigate between two key and sometimes opposite client demands:

• Natural, sustainable, and authentic materials: silk, light cotton, rope, rattan. The emphasis is on eco-friendly design, functionality, and ergonomics.
• Noble and luxurious finishes: high-end materials, handcrafted details, and sophisticated styles aiming for an exclusive, luxurious aesthetic.

A highlight will be the “Living Nature” pavilion on Piazza del Duomo, curated by Carlo Ratti Associati, exploring the connection between nature and living spaces across the four seasons in a futuristic glasshouse.

Marble and Brass: London Chic Meets Italian Luxury

British designer Bethan Gray returns with coffee tables in marble and brass, plus a collection of low furniture featuring precious woods and handcrafted marquetry. English chic meets 21st-century elegance.

GUBI also stands out with its iconic Beetle chairs in velvet, paired with massive brass dining tables. Natural stone flooring and marble bathrooms are on display with standout designs such as Lea Ceramiche’s Slimtech Timeless marble-effect tiles and Antonio Lupi’s marble bathtub.

Rope and Outdoor Furniture: Greek Island Spirit

Outdoor furniture trends 2022 embrace wood combined with soft fabrics. Low rattan and rope chairs evoke Mediterranean holidays. The use of pastel tones alongside exotic woods reflects a bohemian, natural atmosphere.

The “Designers under 35” section will spotlight young talents from Latin America and Africa, emphasizing a return to raw materials and craftsmanship.

Reissues of Iconic Furniture Pieces

To celebrate the iconic PH5 lamp, Louis Poulsen presents new color editions for a contemporary look.

• Series 7 Chair – New Pearl Pink and Caspian Blue Velvet

Fritz Hansen revisits the Series 7 chair with fresh color editions: Pearl Pink and Caspian Blue Velvet, in collaboration with Lala Berlin.

• Cassina Sofas – Pastel Futurism

Cassina presents new pastel-toned sofas: the Soft Props sofa by Konstantin Grcic in salmon pink and the 552 Floe Insel sofa by Patricia Urquiola in pastel blue – modular, dynamic, and futuristic.

Parallel Exhibitions: Eurocucina, Salone del Bagno & Workspace 3.0

The 57th edition of the Milan Furniture Fair expands with side exhibitions: Eurocucina/FTK for kitchens, the Salone del Bagno for bathrooms, and Workspace 3.0 for office and co-working trends. Expect kitchens to be increasingly interconnected, and workspaces designed for comfort and creativity.
