Best Mirror Decoration Ideas: How to Transform Any Room with Stylish Wall and Floor Mirrors

by admin 29 Oct 2019 0 comment

Mirrors act like magicians in your home: they make spaces look larger, multiply light, and reflect beautiful views. Depending on their size and placement, they can become either the main feature or a subtle decorative accent, but the right mirror will always stand out. They are true enchantments that brighten and energize any room.

In this article, I’ll share some of my favorite mirror shapes and creative ideas for hanging them at home to make the most of these stunning decor elements.

Vertical Rectangle Mirror

This classic and versatile shape is popular for a reason. Like a framed painting, it deserves to be displayed as artwork—above a mantelpiece or as a focal point in the living room. Try placing two mirrors on opposite walls to add incredible depth, or position one directly across from a window to maximize natural light. The effect can instantly brighten the entire space.

A timeless use: a matching pair above double sinks for an elegant and stylish bathroom upgrade.

Horizontal Rectangle Mirror

This orientation is ideal for filling long spaces, which is why it’s a natural choice above a fireplace. It also works beautifully above a long sideboard, in an entryway for a last-minute makeup check before leaving home, or in rooms with low ceilings, where tall mirrors might emphasize the height issue. Behind a bar, they create a chic atmosphere without needing a password.

Large Round Mirror

Large round mirrors create a bold focal point and can anchor a room with style. Circles are easy to integrate into any decor. With a thin or frameless design, they look modern and casual; with a jewel-like frame, they become dramatic and sophisticated. Place one above a desk and it instantly doubles as a vanity space.

Small Round Mirror

Add a touch of brightness anywhere by hanging a small round mirror. Place one in a windowless corner near a lounge chair, in a powder room, or above a favorite artwork to emphasize high ceilings. A group of small circular mirrors arranged above a long sofa is also a stylish alternative to a gallery wall.

Sunburst Mirror

Nothing brings irresistible charm to interior design like a classic sunburst mirror—a snapshot of happiness for your decor. Use them as accent pieces in the powder room, as punctuation above a console table, or to add a little sparkle to the bedroom. A favorite trick is hanging one in front of a window—it’s like having your very own sun indoors.

Oval Mirror

This timeless shape is softer than a rectangle but subtler than a large circle, making it a versatile design piece. Perfect above a console table in the entryway, or placed between two windows in the living room to give the illusion of a third opening. Oval mirrors also shine between two wall sconces in the dining room, beautifully reflecting chandelier light.

Floor Mirror

A familiar favorite in bedrooms, a large floor mirror leaning against the wall can completely transform a living room, making a neglected corner vibrant. It also works wonderfully in a den or home office to create the illusion of a much larger space. And of course, it’s a must-have in every dressing room.

Arched Window Mirror

With their architectural curves and occasional faux panes, these arched mirrors bring sophistication even to the simplest rooms. Use their trompe-l’oeil effect to create a charming nook or a dramatic focal point in a hallway. If the back of your sofa faces a wall, an arched mirror ensures you still enjoy a “view.”

Mirror Styling Tip

I love placing an arched window-style mirror at the end of a hallway or opposite a small window to reflect more light. Another trick: tilt a mirror slightly so it catches light without reflecting the entire room. And of course, above the fireplace is always a classic placement—it simply works.
